Reinhold Schmieding

As Founder and President of Arthrex, Reinhold has lead the development of over 15,000 surgical devices and implants for less invasive orthopedic surgery the past 40 years, with over 150 product and method patents. As a technology pioneer in arthroscopic surgery, Reinhold developed some of the first instruments for arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery in the early 1980s with leading orthopedic surgeons from Europe and North America.

Arthrex remains a private company without outside investors solely dedicated to its mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™ with a team of over 7,000 employees worldwide. Over 90 percent of Arthrex products are designed and manufactured in the U.S. with over 1,000 new products introduced to the market each year. In 2020, Reinhold was awarded the Edison Innovation award as one of the leading innovators in the U.S. from the Thomas Edison Society as well as the Circle of Honor Award from AOSSM for his contributions to sports medicine innovation and medical education.
